Keeping it real

Today marks day 15 of the 30 day plan. I haven't lost "pounds" since I last posted but I have lost inches and I am more toned than before. and I'm stronger.

Here is my issue. I've lost an inch on my bust (which was pretty small to begin with), an inch off my (already small) waist, and ZERO inches off my thighs - which is where i WANT to lose the inches!!! My arms? NOTHING.

The program is working as I am losing weight and am looking more toned, but I'm not getting the skinny legs I want.

I still have 2 weeks to go but I'm really starting to crave things now. Like a huge stack of pancakes with butter and syrup. Like endless candy cars. like cooookkkkiiiiieeeeesssssss.
mmmmmm, cookies. I. love. cookies. Eating fish and salad and chicken endlessly gets old. I just want a slice of pizza. That's all I'm saying. Just trying to keep it real.

Making the Cut update - day 4

So if you read the title, you can tell that I'm 4 days into this program and here are my observations and thoughts so far...

  • I've gone from 127 pounds to 123.6. In. Four. Days.
  • I'm surprisingly full (stuffed, really) at every meal.
  • Eating food with zero salt really sucks.
  • I've been using a lot more toilet paper drinking 100+ oz. of water a day.
  • It's really amazing the quantity of food you can eat when you are eating the right things.
  • My shorts are significantly looser than 5 days ago. The khaki shorts I have on now were really snug on Saturday but now they hang very well and are even a hair too big.
  • It has not been long enough yet to kill my sugar cravings. I made these fruit bars for the family and specifically used raspberry filling because I don't like raspberries - therefore, I wouldn't be tempted. WRONG. They smell heavenly and I don't even care they are a flavor I dislike. I want them. (don't worry, I won't cave. The results are too exciting to stop now.)
  • I'm wondering how thin is too thin. Will I look gross at 120? 118? 115? I can't imagine I'll go below 118, my body is just not built for that size.
  • Grilling food is very satisfying.
  • I am more aware of food. It's hard to explain but I want to get fresh ingredients and don't really have a desire to pop a can of cream of mushroom blah. I want to use REAL ingredients. This is very different for me. I'll ponder this.
Confession: I will most likely have a cheat meal on my husband's birthday on Saturday. whew. I feel better.

April and May review

Man has life gotten in the way the last little while. Moving, sick kids, out of town, end of school...

Almost halfway done with the year (how did that happen??) so let's see how I've done.

- go the whole year injury free!!! YAY! Killing this one.

1 mile timed run each month
January outside- 8:05
February treadmill - 7:35 <-- almost="" died="" span="">
March - ummm, oops.

April - yeah.

May - In my defense, I was out of town for 3 of the 4 weeks in May.

Run/bike/swim 2000 miles combined
April and May - 162.87
Total miles - 561.30 combined for the year. It's not looking good for my 2000 miles goal, I just HAVE to start getting in some bike rides. At this point I'm lucky if I get 4 rides a month with the boys in the trailer.

Run a sub 2 hour half marathon. Registration is open, but I'll wait to register until after our vacation in May.

run a sub 25 minute 5KJune race - fail. Next one is September 21.

bike a 15 mile bike ride averaging 19 mph. about that...

race a 10K under 58 minutesneed to find one, for some reason there are not very many around here.

weight training at least 2x a week.  got slack in may while I was gone, so I'm back at it for June.

maybe try a duathlon? probably not going to happen this year.

I'm starting to figure out how I can up my mileage in biking. I will have to move my long run to friday and bike on saturday while the hub is home. That's the only way I can figure that out. I'm also hoping to continue my progress on my running speed. I'll do speedwork tomorrow!

Making the cut

Is a book from Jillian Michaels about shedding those last 10 pounds and really getting that final definition that you want. Since my 5K's are over until September and my half training doesn't start until August I needed a goal. I will do the 30 day plan starting this morning and am pretty excited about it.

There are a couple rules that I am supposed to follow on this plan and they are:

  • Eat the magic number - according to the calculations, I am supposed to eat 1380 calories a day. No more, no less. I will be tracking calories in a notebook for the whole month.
  • Eat for your metabolic type - I took the test and I am a "balanced" oxidizer. That means I need about equal percentages of the 3 macronutrients and can eat a wide variety of foods.
  • Eat every 4 hours.
  • No processed or junk foods. (that includes soda, cookies, chips, deli meat, candy, ice cream, anything white, etc.)
  • Water consumption - 100 ounces of water a day, minimum.
  • No booze - haha!!! I don't drink so this is an easy one.
In addition, there is a strict meal plan and exercise routine. I will follow the exercises in addition to my running schedule and do the best I can on the diet plan while still feeding my family good stuff.

I will be taking measurements, pictures, weight, etc. right now and do a cool before/after picture thing. Hopefully it's awesome.

Ignite 5K

I thought it was going to suck, and it did.

76 degrees at the start and only 30 minutes later, 80 degrees at the finish.

here's the start. I am in there just to the right of the head of the boy in green.

I hit mile 1 in 8:13 and felt fairly good but knew I was going too fast.

Hit mile 2 at 8:53 and was in serious pain. it was just so HOT. My legs wanted to go, go, go but my breathing was way off and my heart beating was about to explode out of my ears.

I checked behind me and there was hardly anyone there so I let myself slow down since I knew no one was going to catch me. At this point, I didn't even care about my time, I just wanted to finish so I could go the the bathroom and cool down!

My friend took this picture of me with her phone about .15 from the finish. I'm shooting myself in the head.

Mile 3 at 9:13

Finish time of 27:27 (how is that even possible??)
slower than last year but like I said, by mile 2 I just didn't care anymore.
5th out of 70 women overall
2nd out of 20 in the 30-39 age group

I ran a 5K in training about a month ago when it was 50 degrees a minute faster than this. I know I can go much faster with the proper weather and some more strict training - no more vacations!! ;)

On to the next race!
