Diving and speed

Wondering where I've been the last little while??

Getting scuba diving certified! It was a long 2 weeks and involved an incredibly great babysitter and patient husband. And perhaps some excedrin to keep me awake. Anyway, I'm now finished with my class, certified, and very excited to go diving in the British Virgin Islands in 3 weeks!!!!

Now that I'm recovered from the sleep deprivation and am back on my training, I tackled my three 1 mile repeats this morning. It's been a LONG time since I've done those. So long that I looked it up to see how long. 1 month ago on the treadmill. That doesn't really count since I can set the pace and just go (which I did at 8:30 each). So I looked back some more to see when I did it on the road.

back then, my times were 8:37, 8:42, 8:48. I remember being so tired and it being so hard.
today? my times were 8:03, 8:15, 8:22.
My impressions from this morning was that the first 2 were really hard and the third at an 8:22 pace felt much more comfortable. Plus, that was on no caffeine. oh yeah baby!

Perhaps 8 months from now they'll all be in the 7's? Super exciting to think about.

I was thinking yesterday on my bike ride on how far I've come the last 5 years or so. Back then I was riding my road bike about 3 or 4 times a week around the neighborhood for 30 or 40 minutes, and my pace was nothing to brag on. A girl at church would run around our neighborhood - about 3 miles - and I would see her from my window and be so impressed and jealous that she could do that. She wasn't fast and didn't race very often but she could do something that I couldn't. I mean, I couldn't even run to the end of the block without keeling over and almost passing out.

4 years ago I decided I would try to run. The couch to 5K was mine. Except that we get these great ideas, like "hey! I can do that!" and then we go to try it out and it's so much harder than you even thought possible. I pushed through and ran my first 5K that Thanksgiving when my then baby was 6 months old. I finished in 32 minutes and wondered why I tortured myself like that. I did another in 30 minutes and then after an injury and a couple triathlons I did another in 28 minutes(10 months after the first). Then I got pregnant, had another baby and started to get back into shape. My current "non-official" 5K time from 2 weeks ago was 26:21 and I'm training for a sub-25. And, I've done a marathon.

Along those lines, one of my standard speed workouts is 4x800's. They always hurt, I always want to quit and hate running when I'm doing the 3rd one. But, notice my times for last 4 times I've done this workout.

8 weeks ago: 3:55, 4:05, 4:10, 4:07 = 2 miles in 16:17
6 weeks ago: 3:51, 3:54, 3:59, 4:01 = 2 miles in 15:45
4 weeks ago: 3:46, 3:58, 4:16, 3:47 = 2 miles in 15:47
Today:           3:42, 3:53, 3:56, 3:49 = 2 miles in 15:20

Not too shabby, right? It's results like this that make me love my garmin keep punishing myself with the speed workouts. They WORK.

Can't wait to see where I'll be in another 5 years.

no camera and no candy

-After the move to the new (tiny) house, I can't find anything. My family of 6 now lives in a 1500 square foot house and we are squishy. I can't find my camera, which means I have no pictures at all - I'm sorry about that.

-After being sick last week I am back in the saddle as far as my training plan goes, I've got 8 weeks until my 5K so I'm getting serious again. Unfortunately, on my 3 mile easy run this morning, I couldn't breathe!  It was my first experience trying to hawk a loogie.
is that how you spell that? Hack? hake?
Anyway, the phlegm was running like crazy and kept getting caught in my throat - hence the not breathing. Anyway, I'll just chalk it up to a crappy run and get some good sleep the next couple days.

-Also, a friend of mine is trying to go off soda but doesn't think she can do it cold turkey so for this week she is attempting to have one a day. I told her I would join her in a goal of my own. I will only eat candy/dessert type item once during the day for this week and we'll see how we did on Saturday. I'm also hoping I can lose 1.5 pounds this week while doing this goal, I eat a LOT of candy. It's a sickness.

Oh, hi there April.

April kind of snuck up on me. March ended up being a completely crazy month and with lows still in the 30's and highs only hitting 50 degrees, it does NOT feel like spring yet.

Here's my goal review for March.

- go the whole year injury free!!! So far so good. My knee was a little achy but it only lasted a week or so.

1 mile timed run each month
January outside- 8:05
February treadmill - 7:35 <-- almost="" died="" span="">
March - ummm, oops.

Run/bike/swim 2000 miles combined
Run miles - 71.43
Bike miles - 49
Total miles - 120.42 month/398.43 year

Run a sub 2 hour half marathon. Registration is open, but I'll wait to register until after our vacation in May.

run a sub 25 minute 5KSo far I have one on June 1, and another October 3.

bike a 15 mile bike ride averaging 19 mph. too cold to bike!

race a 10K under 58 minutesneed to find one.

weight training at least 2x a week.  9 sessions, very solid.

maybe try a duathlon?

Excited for a new month and hopefully warmer weather. It just feels wrong to bundle up with a beanie and gloves to go running in April.  Come ON, low's in the 50's!!
