2013 Goals

What in the world just happened? I feel like I blinked and 2012 is over.

Here is what I would like to accomplish in 2013.

- go the whole year injury free!!!

- 1 mile timed run each month to see how I improve over the year. This one will be fun.

- Run/bike/swim 2000 miles combined. That is so overwhelming if you sit and think about it too much, so I'm breaking it down. I mean, I have 4 kids and none of them are old enough to stay by themselves. I don't have a treadmill. the time commitment is difficult right now. 1000 miles of running and biking each is about 83 miles a month. Which is about 21-ish miles a week.

- Run a sub 2 hour half marathon. I'm thinking something in October or November.

- run a sub 25 minute 5K. I might be running a lot of those. This goal is pushing the edge of possibility, but hey. That's what I like to do. I want to see what I really CAN do and not be satisfied with just hanging out.

- bike a 15 mile bike ride averaging 19 mph. I'm thinking I might do one timed 15 miler each month to see how I improve here as well.

- race a 10K under 58 minutes. If I can bust out the sub-2 half marathon, this one will be cake.

- weight training at least 2x a week.

- maybe try a duathlon?

2012 Review

Here were my accomplishments for 2012


  • Ran a 5K at an 8:44 pace! (june)
  • Added our fourth and final child to our family. we are now complete. 

No more unexpected pregnancies, no more recoveries, we are D.O.N.E.
  • Lost all my baby weight and fit back into the clothes I've been wearing since I got married 9 1/2 years ago.

  • got my first ever black toenail.




  • Registered for, completed, and got 3rd in my AG at an Olympic Distance Triathlon.

  • Did my first marathon. It sucked. The weather was against us. But I finished and best of all? My dad did it with me.



  • Ran 734 miles for the year even though I didn't run in January or December. 
  • Biked 1128 miles.

it's almost time!

**note: I've been trying to finish this post for 3 days now. I guess that's how it goes when you have little kids at home while you are also sick.

I moved up to level 3 of Jillian's ripped in 30. I wanted to cry. Holy crap my triceps have never hurt so bad. And I almost passed out doing the cardio stuff - although that could be because I ate crap for lunch. (chocolate and animal crackers/popcorn) I felt like my heart was going to explode out my ears.

Today is the 19th of December which means there are only 6 more shopping days until Christmas or more importantly...12 days until I can run again!!!!!

Here's how I know that my foot will feel good. Before, when it was hurt but I didn't feel anything while I walked around, if I flexed my foot and pushed it to the outside of my body (anterior, right?) the pain would still be there. NOW?! If I do that same flex and twist thing...NO PAIN!!!! I don't feel anything at all!!!! I'm hhhheeeeeaaaaaalllliiinnnnnggggggggg!!!!!!!!

can you tell that I'm excited?

All said and done, I will have taken 7 weeks off from running. That's impressive right there.

schedule time


I miss running.

It's been exactly 1 month of zero running. and I'm getting impatient.

I miss my shoes. I miss my workout gear. I miss being outside. I miss my running playlist.

So to take my mind off the fact that I still have 2 weeks to wait, I decided to research some races for me to do in 2013. Dave has forbidden me to do any LONG races and I don't feel like it's smart to do a triathlon with no pool to train in, so here's what I've found so far...

March 2 - 5 mile Patriot Run. This looks like a cool distance to try.

March 24 - Short course duathlon?? I've never done this and it'll force me to work on my less than stellar of the triathlon's 3 sports. 3 mile run/14 mile bike/1.5 mile run

April 20 - 5K!!!! the first try for a sub 25 minute race.

May 4 - kayakathlon. kayak/bike/run. how cool is that?

October 12 - 5K!!!!! second try for a sub 25!

October 19 - Neuse River Bridge 1/2 marathon??

November 15 - 10 mile train run.

That looks pretty good to me! I'm excited!

Ripped in 30


My back is feeling better! I have a nasty bruise but other than that I've been healing up nicely.

Tuesday I started in with week 2 of Jillian's Ripped in 30. This is a hard DVD. I'm already getting stronger which is cool, but it's still hard. it involves some of this:

I would recommend this video if you don't want to get bored since there are 4 different workouts on it and each workout only does each move 2 different times of 30 seconds each. awesome!

I did download the meal plan that goes with the workouts but that is not going well. I'll eat really well at breakfast and lunch and then about 3pm hits and it's all downhill from there. We'll see how today goes, I'm hoping I don't crash and burn again today. 

I'm thinking I might do a round 2 of this workout in January - that's how much I like it!

oh, SNAP!



I'm walking down my stairs holding my (heavy) baby and and about halfway down my foot just flew up out from under me. It was a combination of slow motion and the fastest 2 seconds of my life. I had no time to think and just held on to the baby while I landed on the stairs full force on my back. The tears came instantly while I laid (lay? lie? I can never figure out which one it is) on the stairs to figure out how badly I was hurt. 5 minutes later I slowly got up and investigated the damage. I think I'm just bruised but dang it hurts bad! BADLY bruised.

I have zero desire to run right now. I have a feeling I won't do anything today since it hurts so bad.

Why can't mommies have someone to kiss their boo boo's away??

it hurts

After a week of Jillian's Ripped in 30, I want to curl up in a ball of soreness and sleep for 3 days.

My hamstrings. ow. There are dead lifts in level 1 and I'm dying.
The pushups? ooohhhhhh, the pushups. Why are there so many stinking pushups?!

 It's obvious that even though I can run 6 miles and not be sore, weight lifting and strength training is still important. I should NOT be this sore.  That's okay, I will be stronger and when I add running back to the table I'll just be that much better!

My eating is going well except for about 2pm when I get the snackies. I'm tired and need something to keep me going until the end of the day. advice?

November is gone...

1 month left in my goals review, here's how I've done.


  • Run a 5K under 27:30 (8:50 pace) 27:21 June 23, Ignite 5K
  • Have a baby. (hahaha) I better start planning his 1 year birthday!


  • Get down to my "happy weight"at 122 poundsDone. clothes fit, now to toning those muscles!
  • Biking speed averaging 18 mph. Destroyed at the tri. 18.8mph for 25 mile ride. Only faster from here!
  • Do an olympic distance triathlon. no time goal although I would LIKE to break 3 hours2:55, placed in age group - goal crushed.

  • Complete my marathon in under 4:30. Completed. Time goal NOT accomplished but I just didn't have a great day. 

  • Find another 10K and break 58 minutes. not going to happen this year.
  • Run 800 700 miles for the year.  Ran 60.8 miles in the month of November putting me at 726.8 miles for the year. I might get a couple more miles from walking but I am planning on staying away from running until January. I want to make sure I didn't hop back into running too early before everything was better.

I'm really happy with the goals I've hit this year even though I've had some missteps along the way. 

Tuesday Tangents


  • I took off my toenail polish so I could redo it in a pretty Christmas color (red) and my 2nd toenail on my right foot is BLACK! Can I be classified as a real runner now? 
  • I'm at 3 full weeks of rest for my foot and I'm really hopeful that all this time off running will put me back in tip top shape. 
  • I started (today) with Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30 INCLUDING the meal plan. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow morning with my list and meal plan for the next 30 days. I'm hoping to post a very awesome picture of me in a month. Girl don't mess around.
  • We have an Elf on the Shelf and my kids are obsessed with where he will be every morning. His name is Sam.
  • I'm getting very antsy to start running again. I really miss it. I want to sign up for a race.
  • my "baby" is turning 1 year old in a month. what?!
