May is gonna rock.

  • Run a 5K under 27:30 (8:50 pace) 1 5K done at 28:39, waiting until the fall to find a new one so I don't run in the summer heat.
  • Have a baby. (hahaha) DONE.
  • Get down to my "happy weight"at 122 pounds.130 this morning. My next goal is to break into the 120's - I can taste it!

That's just mean.

  • Biking speed averaging 18 mph. 16.5 so far is my best.
  • Do an olympic distance triathlon. no time goal although I would LIKE to break 3 hours.registered and nervous!
  • Complete my marathon in under 4:30.
  • Find another 10K and break 58 minutes.
  • Run 800 miles for the year.  Ran 66.54 miles in April. 172.48 total for 2012. Changing the goal down to 700 miles for the year which is still 75 miles a month from now on. I'm still not sure if I can do that without getting injured. Schedule for May is 78.5 miles.

In the last month, I've lost 4 pounds of fat while building muscle. I've had a "long run" of 6 miles which is great compared to my "long run" of 4 miles last month! My longest bike this month was 26 miles. Still no swimming - oops. 

My biggest accomplishment this month? On Saturday I bypassed THIS:

Can I just say, WHY do the stores do this?! It's just rude to dieting people!!!!

No worries, I denied the temptation.

May is my month! I'm getting stronger. I'm getting faster. I'm getting thinner. Let's do this!

Three Things Thursday

First of all, I totally wish you could have seen my spelling in the title before I really looked at it and changed it. Jeez, college education, what?!


Boo-YAH!!!! Success!!!! I haven't seen that number since like 24 weeks pregnant, and baby we are SO close to the 120's.

2. My ghetto rig while I ride the trainer in the garage. And yes, that is the biggest loser I am watching.

1 hour 10 minutes in the bag.

3. Insanity plyometric cardio circuit is no joke! I did it on Tuesday and am still ridiculously sore. My lower back especially. DANG. I feel like people should be able to see how sore I am. Do you do that too? When you are hobbling around and you're like, "Dude, can't my soreness aura penetrate through the air and you can feel it too??"  Misery loves company, right?

New (Old?) Pants

Here's my 5 year old - Andrew. And my BABY at 3 months old.

I know, they are totally adorbs.

I am counting calories to reach my goal. You know (because I've mentioned it before) that I'm listening to Jillian Michael's podcasts lately and every time she gets a caller who complains that they can't lose weight, she asks them if they are counting calories. They say no. And she says, well, that's your problem! If you were counting calories then it would work.


I get 1200 - 1400 calories a day of whatever I want and green veggies are freebies. And so I stay full, my plates look a lot like this:

Yes, that is an overflowing dinner plate of yumminess. nom nom. 

It's so much easier when I look at that paper and know if I eat 10 cookies I'll push my number for the day up by 1000 calories. It's extremely eye-opening. And it's WORKING.

Three Things Thursday


My spot in the marathon I signed up for last year has OFFICIALLY been moved to this year. As of today. I am registered (and so is my dad) for our FIRST marathon on November 11th!!!! And I get to fly back to Dallas for it!

2. I got to take my kids strawberry picking today. We got 12 pounds of strawberries. They smell insane. Jam and strawberry shortcake are calling my name!

3. I think I won't exercise today. I'm too tired. And it's recovery week, so TWO rest days this week!

doing well

I'm not giving in to those cookies on my counter. It's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but I'm STRONG.

Only 1.8 pounds to go until I do my FIRST giveaway EVER!!!! woohoo!

Stay tuned to see what it will be about, and I can't WAIT until I no longer see the 130's! I'm so close I can taste it!

Bullets and Cellulite

One thing I've learned while listening to all the archives of The Jillian Michael's Show podcasts, it's that to be specific in my goals. And when I'm specific in WHY I want to achieve something, it will motivate me to stay focused on doing it.

I've been stuck at 133 pounds for the last 2.5 weeks. Again.


Because I do really well for 4 days or so and then there is a treat, a goodie, and I want to reward myself for doing well! ::cough, cough:: cookies ::cough::

So here are some of my specific reasons for wanting to lose that last 10-ish pounds. In bullet form. Cuz I'm cool like that.

  • I want to wear my totally cute clothes in my closet. Because they don't fit right now.
  • I want my abs back.
  • I do NOT want cellulite.
  • Runner's legs. 'nuff said.
  • I want to weigh in the 120's.
  • I want to wear a swimsuit with CONFIDENCE. I don't want to worry about jiggly thighs.
  • I want toned arms.
  • I want to wear those booty running shorts and feel good.
  • I want to feel sexy for my husband! (oh, that's RIGHT I said it!)
  • ZERO back fat.
  • So I don't get cancer like my mom.
  • So I don't have a heart attack or stroke like my dad.
  • At the family reunion in July, I do not want to feel like the fat sister-in-law amongst Dave's 90 pound sisters.
July?? YIKES! That's coming up fast. 3 months! Can I lose 12 pounds in 3 months? YES!!! I will do it!

Starting right now. NOW. I'm going to jump start my 12 pound goal with my SPECIFICS in mind (and taped to my fridge) by not eating any added sugar for the next 3 days. Go time.

Goal jeans, here I come!

2 week candy break

Easter is over.


For some reason Easter is a 2 week event here in North Carolina! The kids have had 4 easter egg hunts, 3 parties with COOKIES, candy, more candy, and...did I mention candy? There is another egg hunt this saturday and we are NOT going!

I couldn't resist because I am weak and had a 4 day binge of eating yummy goodness. And then feeling sick. I swear on Saturday all I ate of real food was an apple. and maybe some water. The rest of the day it was cookies, some brownies, and reese's eggs.

The next dessert event that I am aware of is going to be April 22 at my church. That will be my cheat day so I will go the next 12 days with no sweets.

This week is spring break for us so I got to sleep in this morning until 7am!!!! Usually I'm up at 5am to nurse the baby and head out for my run before Dave leaves for work. But today he had to leave to get his new driver's license and do a ton of schoolwork for his Master's degree so no run until later. I'm hoping I can be motivated at the end of the day to get it done because I am NOT a late in the day exerciser. I like to go out there in the quiet and get it over with. Normally if I wait the kids have exhausted me and I don't want to do it anymore. Plus, I run better on an empty stomach.

uh oh

11 days in and I crash and burn. What is the MATTER with me?? I was determined to not let the easter candy get to me!! But NOOOOOOO. I had to go and buy easter candy for my kid's easter egg hunt and easter baskets. The GOOD candy for a happy husband. And in the middle of the day when I found myself tired and needing a pick me up, what did I pick up??

I'm hoping the binge has healed my desire for more when the baskets are officially unveiled. I'm a little sick to my stomach.

sweat and sales

I enjoy working out outside. It's part of the high for me. Being outside in nature, the wind in my face, listening to the birds chirping as the sun rises over the trees and the soft lapping of the water when I run by the river.

But I head out the door around 5:30 - 6am and it's still dark. Which is fine for running if you are prepared. But I just do not feel comfortable biking outside in the dark.
 Which is why I LOVE my trainer. It was my birthday present in 2010 (thank you craigslist!) and with 3 little kids at home during the day, it provides a great workout when I can't go outside!

But man does it feel good to accomplish some calorie burn during the day.

2012 Goals Check in

  • Run a 5K under 27:30 (8:50 pace) 1 5K done at 28:39, waiting until the fall to find a new one so I don't run in the summer heat.
  • Have a baby. (hahaha) DONE.
  • Get down to my "happy weight"at 122 pounds.133.8 this morning after overeating all weekend. Slowly getting there! Only a couple more pounds and I can start pulling out some normal clothes!
  • Biking speed averaging 18 mph. I've hit 16.2 once so far. now that the weather is getting nicer I'll be able to go out more.
  • Do an olympic distance triathlon. no time goal although I would LIKE to break 3 hours.registered and nervous!
  • Complete my marathon in under 4:30.
  • Find another 10K and break 58 minutes.
  • Run 800 miles for the year.  March 31 - 105.94 miles total for 2012. I'm just now getting to where 3.5 miles feels okay and I don't want to DIE 1.5 miles in. Slowly building the mileage! 77 miles/month to make my goal now. April plans have me finishing the month at 67 miles. This goal may fall by the wayside while I continue to run injury free. High mileage gets trumped by healthy body!
I feel like I have come a LONG way this month! I'm getting back into good eating habits and the weight is coming off in a healthy way for a nursing mom. Only about 11 more pounds until I'll be REALLY happy with my weight and 13-14 pounds for a supremely confident racing weight. I feel stronger at longer distances and much less like a truck ran me over after only a mile. I have even added small amounts of speedwork!

Something that means a whole lot to me is my husband's support. He knows how important it is to me to be in shape and feel strong. He knows that I like to race and that I need an outlet that is just for me. He rarely never complains about the time I spend exercising and watches all 4 kids whenever I head out during the day. (I'm usually an early morning exerciser) His only complaint is how gross I smell when I'm done. Warranted. I don't think I'd be able to do this if I had a husband who rolled his eyes and complained about me being away from the house every morning to exercise. I love him. LOVE.
