New Year Goals

Goals for 2011

Which I am attempting to keep realistic. I mean, I could make a goal to win Kona this year, but that just seems a little cocky. Even though I COULD, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, you know?

  • Run a mile in 7 minutes flat.
  • Run a 5K under 27:30 (8:50 pace)
  • Run a marathon under 4:30 (4:15 is better)
  • Get my biking speed to 17mph average
  • do a 100K bike ride
  • Shave 6 minutes off Blackland triathlon time (this is a lofty goal)
  • no sweets except for my one cheat day a week. After this holiday, I don't even WANT sweets.
  • wear a swimsuit with confidence - I want an awesome butt. Also a lofty goal after 3 kids and turning 30 this year!!
  • run 1000 miles. I'm not even sure if I can do this one. Hopefully the marathon training will help with this.
What are your goals? I'm already feeling optimistic after my 7 miler today at 9:40 pace INCLUDING the hills!! With my last mile at the fastest. go me!!

The numbers don't lie.

So my husband offers to run with me every now and then. and I hate it. He doesn't stay with me because my pace is pretty much walking for him. It's obvious that it pains him to go that slow. He is surprised that I don't run that fast since I am such a good swimmer and an okay cyclist (although not rocking on the speed there, either).  It makes me feel bad for not being better.

All I know is that when I run "fast", I feel like curling up in the fetal position and dying. My heartrate is sky high (although I didn't really know what it was, but I knew how I felt). It hurts SO BAD. I feel as though my arteries are going to burst open and spew blood all over from my heart beating so hard.

The facts are this:
220 minus your age = your maximum heart rate. The number you shouldn't go over. I am 29. SO my max heart rate would be 191.

You are supposed to hang out in the 65% to 85% of the max. SO, I should hang around in the 124-162 heart rate range.

Today while I ran my 1 mile in 7:50, my heart rate hit 193. That is OVER what my max is supposed to be. No wonder I feel like I'm going to die. You know what's sad? 7:50 isn't fast!!! How in the world am I supposed to be able to run faster if my heart is going to explode out of my chest??

Even when I slowed back down to 9:22/mi, I couldn't get under 184.

On a side note, I feel pretty comfortable with the heart rate at 175.

I am a numbers geek

Check out what my love got me for Christmas!!

Can't see it that well?? Here's a close up!

Oh YEAH baby!

Since I'm only running every other day right now, I couldn't run until today to test it out.

(might I mention that it's really hard to run under a freezing temperature because it hurts to breathe and the muscles don't ever warm up. So I felt slow and super tired today.

Garmin stats for run today:
3.84 miles
38 minutes
HR high 182
calorie burn 445
mile  1 - 9:45
Mile 2 - 9:46
mile 3 - 10:20
mile .84 - 8:30 (10:12/mi)

Coolest watch ever. Like, EVER.

Watch out for the arm warmers he got me, too!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it...rain??

Today I had a 6 mile run on tap (key workout). And it was raining. and was 36 degrees. I really think snow would have been better. Oh, did I mention the 16 mph winds from the north?

This pic does not do justice to how soaked I was. (I already took off the soaking wet wind pants at mile 4) (and jeez my thighs look huge there)

Notice the droplets of water on my shoulder? And my beanie was soaking wet as well.

Snot on my sleeve.

Me feet stayed completely dry until I accidentally stepped in a huge puddle at mile 4 and splashed just above freezing water into my shoes. Dang it.

Refuel with 2 eggs on whole wheat toast and an apple.

Anyone else that runs have a LOW blood pressure and is ALWAYS dizzy when they stand up? Just me??

It's HERE!!!

My grandma send me some $$ for christmas and my mother in law gave me some $$ for my birthday, so I purchased some running skirts!! The good news? They were on super duper clearance.

This is what I'm wearing for my 10K in January (unless the weather is lower than 40 degrees).

you like?

I also got this red plaid one.

Who else loves running skirts??

(my husband is going to really like these)

2010 recap

January- Hip injury after my first ever 5 mile run(which took an hour). Can't walk without pain.

No workouts AT ALL for 2 months

March - 1 workout video a day. about 30 minutes each.

April 10th - start with 2 mile runs/jogs about 3x a week. It really is hard again.

May - sign up for a triathlon and pull out my bike for the first time in a year and a half. ride 7 miles the first day and feel like I want to die. Swim 500 yards and it hurts (haven't swam laps in like, 5 years).

June - first triathlon. OUCH. walked almost the entire 3.5 mile trail run since I was so wiped. slept for 3 hours that afternoon. Determined to do another and do better.

September - second triathlon, 10 minute PR and felt awesome! 3rd 5K ever with a PR of 28:42.

October - 5K PR of 28:02

November - 1st half marathon @ 2:11:08, got a trainer for my bike so I can work on endurance and speed for 2011 season. Knee injury.

December - training for January 10K, and feeling good. being careful with the knee. 25 mile bike rides feel great.

Can't wait for 2011!!

She shoots, she SCORES!

For the first time in WEEKS, I am 6 for 6 in my workouts this last week!! woohoooooo!

That's right! No puking, injuries, kiddie issues and I got in my workouts every day.

Here's hoping that I can accomplish it again this next week - only 4 weeks left until my race.

Do you think my family would be mad at me if I worked out on Christmas day?? Hmmm...

Here's next weeks plan.

Monday: 4 mile tempo run, ab ripper X with pushups and dips.

Tuesday: 25-ish mile bike (run 1 mile barefoot??)

Wednesday: 1 mile warm up, 6x400's (under 2:00 each), 1 mile cool down, abs, yoga?

Thursday: 25 mile bike (run 1 mile barefoot?)

Friday: 6 mile run, ab ripper, pushups and dips.

Sat/Christmas Day: bike? nothing? don't know yet.

About the push-ups and dips that I've been doing, the hubby NOTICED my arms last night!! He commented that I was getting some muscle! YAY!

Also, can't wait to show you the outfit I'm planning on wearing! Although, it won't be as cool as a RUN EMZ shirt, am I right?? :)

Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes.

To my vast audience of 4 readers (hi, guys!), I want to talk about my run this morning. Was it any more spectacular than any of the runs I've done in the last 2 months? Not especially.

One year ago I ran my second 5K ever. I remember it so well because I wanted to break 30 minutes really bad and I didn't. I came in at 30:20, and wanted to die. Like, D.I.E. I remember wanting to walk SO bad. Not being able to breathe. I almost fell over when I crossed the finish line because i was about to pass out.

Today I have successfully completed (and came in 4th) in 2 sprint triathlons, done 2 more 5K's (28:02), and a half marathon. This morning I ran 5 miles in 51 minutes (which is a hair slow for me) and felt great. GREAT. I have a cold right now and it's freezing outside, but it was a great run. A year ago I never would have imagined that I could run 5 miles OR that it would feel good.

I've come a long way in my first year of running and am looking forward to next December seeing 9 minute miles as "easy" and "feeling good".

Have I mentioned that I don't hate running anymore?? It's a strange feeling.

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Wednesday = workout day

5am, running. (I ran 1 mile at 7:54, my fastest EVER!)

8:30am, walking with the kids and strollers

With baby on my back (since I don't have a double stroller)

7:15pm - yoga

Don't worry, I fueled with AWESOME homemade fajitas by moi. And yes, I had TWO!

Marathon is how long?

I can't get this out of my head.

I called my 2 sisters today to invite them to run the marathon with my dad and me. You know, a family affair - if you will.

One of them is iffy because she's having a baby at the end of June and doesn't think she'll have enough time to train - I get that.

The other was a runner back in the day. Ran the mile in 6:50. Ran 5K's for cross country in early high school. Since then not a lot of the working out. She is now 21 (I think? Hey, the more kids, the lower number of brain cells) She has not worked out for at least 5 years. At all. I told her I was planning on a nice 10 min/mile pace (which she shrugged off as a piece of cake) and just to enjoy the marathon. She then asked me how long THIS marathon was.  Is this normal? People who "should" be runners don't know how long a marathon is??

Neither one will probably do it. Preggy girl, obviously. And the "quitter" sister. I don't mean to be mean (really) but if it's hard, she doesn't finish it. That's the way she is and has been for the last 7 years that I remember.

You guys know anyone who thinks because they were fast for a short period of time about 7 years ago that they can do whatever you do? Does it bug you at all?

(I have another thought I'll share tomorrow)

2011 Race Season

So I'm checking out the calendar and deciding on some races for 2011. I have 2 Biggies that I want to do well in. #1 is The MARATHON...

Dum. Da da dum duuuummmmmm....

My dad said he would travel here and run it with me at my pace! Decided on the White Rock Marathon since it's a huge race and close to me.

#2 Biggie is a repeat of the Blackland Triathlon that I did this year. I want a PR on that course. Goal is to shave off 6 minutes to go under 1:30. I think it's possible since my running is better so I can take off 2 minutes there,(MAYBE I could get even faster and take off more time?? I certainly have room for improvement) and I could take another 3:30 off the bike and another :30 off the swim. I'm jumping in earlier this time so I don't get stuck behind anyone in the pool. Dang slow swimmers. That would put me in about 7th place since I go up an age group in triathlons this year. A harder age group. dang.

January 15 - Hot Chocolate 10K  (goal: 58 minute range. judging by last year's results, if I go faster than 58:42, I'll get 3rd place!!!! 9:20/mile hopefully)

March 26 - 10K Run for Cover (first year for the 10K, I would have placed 2nd for the 5K. Goal - PR from the one in January)

May 7 - Little Big Town 5K (this is a tiny race, I'll most likely place at this one without trying Goal: 27 minute range)

One of the following
June 11 - Metroplex sprint tri
June 18 - Mansfield sprint tri (new race)

August 6 - Mckinney Historical Run 5K (no way I'd place at this one, it's just close to me) Maybe not, I don't know about this one yet

September 5 - Blackland Triathlon (goal - under 1:30)
September 17- SEF 15K (I'll place by default)

October 30 - Boo Run Half marathon (place by default) Maybe I'll do this one

November - Fall out Cooper clinic Sprint Tri. This is also a maybe.

December - Run the Rock MARATHON!!!! say WHAT??
Frosty 5K??

That's at least 5 running races and 2 triathlons planned for now. The hubs and I decided that the Olympic and Half Iron triathlons will have to be pushed back to next year since I still have little kids at home and I don't want to be gone that much.

I'm getting excited. Now all I need is santa to bring me a garmin so I can work on speedwork and getting faster actually KNOWING what pace I'm running at.

Eat your yellow

Does anyone else have a veggie that they could eat every day all day? (To my lone 3 followers)

This would be mine...

Oh yeah, yellow summer squash. YUM! I never get sick of this stuff.

I'm excited to do some more running this week and to not puke anymore. Here's the game plan:

Monday: 4 mile w/ four 3 minute pick ups in the middle. abs, push ups and dips.
Tuesday: trainer for 75 minutes, stretch
Wednesday: 1 mile walk/jog; 1 mile as fast as I can (I'll time it, hopefully 8 minute range)), 1 mile jog cool down. Abs, push ups, dips
Thursday: 45 minute easy trainer, stretch (explanation: I find that by Thursday I am hosed on the workouts. So I decided i would make it an active recovery day for now and see how it feels)
Friday: 5 mile long run, abs, body sculpting
Saturday: Bike to high school (6.8 miles including pecan grove hill. yikes.) run 4x400's AFAIC (as fast as I can) goal to hit 1:30 or as close as possible. bike home (another 6.8 miles DOWN the hill)

Prophylactics for the retinas

Workout today: 17 miles biked, 2 miles ran, 1 hour weights

Remember the contest I said I won?? Well, today I got to try out another one of my prizes! My totally wicked Ryders sunglasses.

You know how rich it makes me feel to wear $60 sunglasses. I'm used to the $5 walmart ones being a step up from the dollar store ones we (hubs and I) always wear. They have interchangeable lenses and are SO light, I don't even feel like I'm wearing anything!

You know.
On my face.

Have I mentioned that winning prizes rocks?? I'm addicted. I need to win more prizes. Anyone want to give me anything else??

my tushy is happy

About a month ago I entered a contest that Steve in a Speedo hosted on his blog. and I WON!!

Well, I just got my prizes right before my 24 hour puke fest and so I FINALLY got to try out my new shorts!! My first pair of biking shorts that are not hand me downs from my mom and over 10 years old!! woohoo!

1 hour and 10 minutes on the trainer = happiness. What am I going to do when The Biggest Loser is over?? What will I watch while I cycle??

Feeling good today. Everyone should exercise for the clarity of mind it can give you. It's amazing how it wipes away all the brain foggies that I get.

Feeling pumped for my 4 mile run tomorrow!

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

I didn't work out at all yesterday.

Because I puked all day.

Yesterday ranks up there with one of the worst days of my life.

Fortunately, I woke up at 5am this morning FINALLY feeling better. I ate 2 pieces of toast and some water this morning and don't feel like retching it back up yet, so things are looking good.

I'm hoping I feel good enough this afternoon to pull the trainer out today and bust out an hour while watching House.

All while keeping my fingers crossed that I win THIS GIVEAWAY from Beth at SUAR.

I mean, who doesn't need gingerbread Gu right after puking her guts out for 24 hours??

Have you ever felt your calves so sore that it feels like knives are stabbing in them??

Because that's how I felt this morning.

I limped my way through a 3.5 mile run. My lungs and heart felt great. Mentally i was rearing to go! But my legs were not having any of it. My hip flexor is still a little sore and tight but I could have worked through that. My calves!! I've been an athlete for a long time and I've never felt anything like this before.

Has anyone else who's ever started running barefoot felt this way?? I hate it.

I actually had to stop and try to stretch them out but it didn't really work.

Hoping wednesday run goes way better because I can't handle this!

Sunday, December 5, 2010

Change is good.

It's been 2 weeks. of no running. (although I have cheated a little)

I'm hoping against hope that my hip flexor is okay and that my knees hang in there!

Monday: 3.5 mile run WITH shoes. YAY! It's test day for running!! Also P90X ab ripper and biggest loser sculpting for awesome cuts. (that would be muscle cuts, by the by.) Now if I could only cut OUT the cookies, the cuts would be easier to see. Hmmmm...

Tuesday: 1hr 15 min. on the trainer. 1/2 mile barefoot??

Wednesday: 3.8 miles with shoes. ab ripper and body sculpting.

Thursday: 75 minutes on the trainer, nice stretching. 1/2 mile barefoot?

Friday: 4 mile run with shoes. abs and strength.

Saturday: 30 mile bike (hopefully NO wind!!!)

Fingers are crossed that I actually get in all the workouts this week since for the last 2 weeks I've had to take random rest days.

I am so excited to start running again. I can't believe I am actually typing this right now. In one year I've gone from wanting to puke my guts out in a 2 mile run and hating it to being excited to run 4 miles!! woohoo!

Friday, December 3, 2010

Will run for cookies

Note to self:

Candy bar = upset stomach.

You can not handle that much sugar at one time.

Even after a meal.

Don't do it anymore.

Thursday, December 2, 2010

2 hour Biggest Loser can be cut down to 1 hour 4 minutes.

My son enjoys taking pictures of me while I moan and sweat.

Back in the day when my first born was NOT born and when she was a baby, I taught spinning classes 5 days a week. I loved those days. They called me the spinning Nazi and there would always be a line for my class. We would need to turn people away because there were too many people who wanted to take the class and not enough bikes. and the largest place had 27 bikes and it was still not enough.

I kept a spiral notebook with the label "SPINNING" in sharpie marker on the front where I wrote all my workouts. (inventive, right?) I pulled it out yesterday in hopes that maybe I would follow one of the workouts while I biked on the trainer for the 3rd day in a row.

Those workouts are INSANE! I used to do those?? I used to do those while smiling and talking everyone's ear off? I am sick.

Example: 30 seconds standing climb/30 second seated sprint ten times.

Where was the rest??

That's 10 minutes of pure agony!

Did I mention that I want to start teaching again?

Just put one foot in front of the other

See these tootsies??

I decided to give them a test run today. Yes, 6 days early I went for a run

I went visiting a friend tonight who lives .6 miles away. I've been reading a lot of books/blogs/etc. about the benefits/problems with running shoes and the ideas behind barefoot running. I get hurt a lot. My hip a year ago. My knee now. My shin splints. I am a heel striker runner and I want to run on the balls of my feet since that is the "correct" way to run and apparently faster. We all know I could be faster. Who doesn't want to be faster??

I ran to my friend's house. With no shoes on.

Only 1.2 miles total, so little stress on the injured knee/strained hip flexor.

It felt awesome.
no pain anywhere.

I felt the slope of the road and sidewalk. My feet and ankles would adjust to unevenness of the running surface before the shock would hit and hurt my knees. Kind of cool. After about 1/4 mile running on the balls of my feet felt natural instead of forced - like it does when I run with shoes on.

I did keep my socks on because it's 38 degrees and I didn't want my toes to freeze. And I am still worried about stepping on a nail or something that will slice my foot open. But right now? I want to try for 2 miles tomorrow. (I probably won't. I'll wait a couple days to continue the healing of the knee)

Death to monster trucks

There is a reason I keep recording House marathons. (not to be confused with a marathon that involves running to and from houses)

It is for the days I am on the Trainer. Which I have yet to name. Suggestions??

Who doesn't love a little Hugh Laurie while gasping for air?

You like how I created my own aerobars with a rolled up sweatshirt? I'm classy like that.

Note the remote control in my hand. Each time I had to fast forward through commercials = 20 second all out sprint. Dang.
On reviewing this picture, no wonder the guy at the garage sale a couple weeks ago didn't think I had the legs of a runner, he said I had the quads of a cyclist. Those are some thunder thighs there. Is that ever going to change??

Finished my 1 hour (that would be an episode and a half) with a rocking salad topped with leftover Thanksgiving turkey breast. Keeping the bowels clean for the win!

Sunday, November 28, 2010

7 days until R day.

I did pretty good this last week. I did miss workouts on Thursday (turkey trot went out since my son puked all night long.), and Friday since I was just too cold! Also, exhausted from that morning's black friday shopping. My speed has dropped on the bike as well as my endurance. My knee now no longer hurts when I'm walking or standing with one week left until TEST day.

Monday - Trainer!!! 1 hour with ab ripper, 30 pushups and dips.

Tuesday - walk 3-4 miles on the dreadmill. yay.

Wednesday - trainer. 1 hour with pilates abs. pushups, dips, and squats. (30 of each)

Thursday - core synergistic from P90X, stretching from P90X. Oh yeah - 2 full hours during playgroup!

Friday - walk 4 miles

Saturday - 30 mile bike, abs, 30 each of pushups, dips, squats

That looks pretty good to me for my last week of no running. I maintained my weight during  turkey week. YES! so now the trick is to lose a couple before I KNOW I will binge on those mint M&M's. groan. mint M&M's. I love Christmas time.

For your viewing pleasure, take a look at my gorgeous family:

I need a cane.

After my 3.4 mile "run" yesterday and the incredible pain in my hip (flexor, that it), and the nagging pain in my knee/IT band later that day, hubby convinced me that some changes are in order.

Olympic triathlon is out for 2011 (unless I can be in shape for the one on september 25).

2 full weeks of no running at all. I am totally nervous that all my hard work will go in the crapper by doing this. But I am hurting. I need these body parts to heal. I am scrapping my 5K in december as well as the turkey trot (I will walk instead). After the 2 weeks I will do a trial 3 mile run to see how everything feels. December 6th will be my "test" run.

Focus on biking, abs, and strength training. Maybe some walking (yawn).

Today I biked 15 miles, did ab ripper from P90X (15min.), and 30 pushups.
Wed: bike 20 miles, maybe arms from P90X?
Thursday: walk 3 mile turkey trot, yoga
Friday: core synergistics
Sat: 20 mile bike, ab ripper

Can I heal in time for my 10K in January??

Sunday, November 21, 2010

pain, pain, go away...

I'm attempting to let my iliopsoas heal, as well as my IT band on the right leg(knee). So I didn't do ANYTHING on friday. or Saturday. or sunday.

I feel fat.

This week will be a little light in attempt to continue to heal.

Monday: 3.75-ish mile run, 15 minutes abs, 3x10 sets pushups
Tuesday: 15 mile bike
Wednesday: nada
Thursday: 5K or 10K race, turkey trot. I'll decide which to do depending on how I feel.
Friday: 20-25 mile bike, 15 minutes abs, 3x10 pushups
Saturday: 5 mile run

This pain has GOT to go away.

Thursday, November 18, 2010

I pulled my hip flexor muscle. (Otherwise known as the iliopsoas)

I can barely walk without shooting pains in my left iliopsoas. Great.

Dave thinks I need to take it easy and let my injuries heal. (hip flexor strain and IT band syndrome - especially in the right knee)

I say - I'm gonna get fat and all my hard work will go down the toilet!

What should I do??

I've already signed up for my first 10K on January 15th. I can scrap my 5K since I HAVEN'T signed up yet.

I'm gonna take today off, bike tomorrow, and sunday off. Should I make all runs 3.4 miles until the pain goes away? I need to start doing ab work again as well, my lower back has been hurting and according to a google search, my abs are weak.

This sucks.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

go HERE to win a run naked shirt.

or don't.

because then i will have a better chance.

2 miles take HOW long?!

Slept in this morning. Felt oh so good.

Went walking with ladies from church with kids and strollers. 2.12 miles in 40 minutes. wow.

Pulled the trainer out and slammed out 1 hour and 3 minutes (yes, those 3 minutes COUNT) with about 10 -15 minutes of a standing climb at the highest resistance. WHILE watching "The Biggest Loser".

calorie burn ~ 900

I better have lost 1 pound this week with all this eating good and moving around!

here's hoping my knee hangs in there for my 6 miler tomorrow. (that would be RUNNING, not walking - that would take me like, 2 hours!)

Monday, November 15, 2010

Happy Birthday to ME!

I've been wanting a trainer since I have kids at home during the day that I can't leave to bike. I can't put them in a bike trailer on the service road of a highway at the speeds I go. When dave leaves for work in the morning, it's dark. When he comes home at 5:30pm, it's dark. I can't get a good workout riding in the neighborhood since it's all twisty and too many turns and traffic.

Welcome to my home my love!

I wanted one of these for Christmas (they are like, $300-ish) but I happened to open up craigslist where a guy had just posted one for $50 including the tire block!

I watched What Not to Wear and Next Iron Chef while keeping my heart rate at a constant 165 for an hour and 15 minutes.

Nice and shweaty.

Life just got a whole lot less stressful.

Game plan

If I didn't have my workouts scheduled for the next 3 months already (yes, I am a nerd. deal with it.) I could totally be one of those people that figures that I am too tired and that it's too cold and it's off season so I can take a month off, right??

Hence the 3 month schedule in the off season.

Here's what I have for this next week..

Monday: 15 mile bike - just trying to get used to being in the saddle again after a month off.
Tuesday: 5.5 mile tempo
Wednesday: 6 miles EASY
Thursday: 15 mile bike
Friday: 1 mile warm up, 6 x 400's solid tempo pace - NOT sprinting, 1 mile cool down.
Saturday: 20 mile bike w/ Jana?? I will email Jana right now to schedule that.

5K in a week and a half. yippee.

Thursday, November 11, 2010

What's the dealio??

Okay. This is not cool.

It is FOUR days after "the race", and I have not recovered yet. Yesterday on my 3.5 mile run, I felt like someone had just rolled me out of bed and told me to run. Foggy head, legs of lead (hey! it rhymes!), no energy. I did it but didn't want to at all and didn't feel right.

Today I decided to give my bike some love after neglecting it for 3 weeks(and to give my IT band a break). I had time for a quick 12 miler before a meeting and it was not good. No energy still, legs are extremely fatigued, high heart rate. Hills that didn't bother me a month ago felt like Mt. Everest today. What gives??

How long does it take to recover from a half marathon? When you aren't a runner? This. Is. LAME.

Tomorrow had BETTER be a good run. speedwork is on the menu.

More pics and PLANS

Mile 7.5ish

 Mile 8ish

coming into the finish!

I've done nothing for the past 2 days. NOTHING.

The day after the race I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I couldn't believe how badly everything hurt!

DRC Half Report

or CRAP this hurts...
or It's all mental...
or Are we ALL mental??

I did my first Half Marathon, the DRC Half.  Holy Crap.  Ouch.

Teresa and I were parked, shuttled in, and roaming the freebie tents with 1 hour to wait. I TOTALLY wish I had a big backpack since there were some killer handouts! Clif Bloks, Clif bars, full size muscle milks, dole whole fruit chewy things, coupons, towel, cups, etc. WHEEEEE! We hit up the porta-potties, ditched the jackets and gloves and ate our Gu's with just 4 minutes to starting time.

I don't have a watch(since I'm poor) so I just stuck with the 2:10 pacers as long as I could and listened to the people calling out times at each mile marker. I don't know how long it took me to cross the start line, so I just began my pacing with the mile 1 number and went from there.

Mile by mile
Mile 1 - 11:54
FREEZING still but feeling great.
Mile 2 - 21:34
Warm now. Wow, running at a 9:40 pace?? Sweet!
Mile 3 - 31:14
Really warm, was I ever cold??  9:40 still. Feeling good.
Mile 4 -  40:55
No one told me the course would be this HILLY! 9:41
Mile 5 - 50:45
When are these hills going to end?? Legs feel good, breathing starting to get hard. 9:50
Mile 6 - 1:00:28
These pacers are way off, I finally got in front of them, they were definitely going too fast. 9:43
Mile 7 - 1:11:30 (What??)
I don't know what happened here. Got tired? Breathing is struggling to regulate after all those hills. 11:02
Mile 8 - 1:20:15
Only 5 miles left!!! I might actually be able to do this! 8:45?? (are these number people right??)
7 might have been long and 8 might have been short, that's the only way that makes sense.
Mile 9 - 1:30:00
Took my last Gu and had to FORCE it down. gross. But I needed the caffeine, since I was starting to drag here. 9:45
Mile 10 - 1:41:00
STRUGGLING. My knees hurt. Hip flexors are getting stiff. Calves are thinking about cramping. Only 3 miles left! 11:00
Mile 11 - 1:51 - ish
Pace is slowing and I can't get my breathing down. I am really fatiguing here. 10:00-ish
Mile 12 - 2:01 - ish
Trying desperately to hang on since all I want to do is walk. My feet are numb and my shins are starting to hurt. It's so mental at this point. Who would know if I walked for a bit? Who would CARE? no one. and yet, it would bother me. 10:00-ish
Mile 13.1 Official time  - 2:11:06
Tried so hard to pick up the pace here for the last mile. I was working so much harder but my pace would not budge. So ready to be done and give my legs a break. 10:06 - ish

Overall pace 10:00/mile.
93/226 in my AG

Random Thoughts
-My legs are trashed.
-I was absolutely only trained for a half and not a mile more.
-It is so mental. I was surprised at how much the head plays tricks on you.
-My tummy is revolting right now. From the gu??
-I could not have done any better than I did - and I am so proud of that.
-13 miles is a long stinking way to run.
-26 is insane.
-Can I call myself a runner, yet?
-I can not believe how bad I hurt right now.
-Why do I put myself through this??
-I must be insane.
-I love my medal.
-Teresa is an ANIMAL finishing at 1:53 (8:40 pace)
-I don't want to run tomorrow.
-I've missed my bike.
-Triathlons is where my love is, I couldn't give up my 2 better sports.
-I think I've conquered my fear of running.

I'm gonna need a couple weeks to recover from this distance, and when I do it again, it will change my training plan a little. Miles 10-13.1 hurt SO BAD so my long runs need to be more frequent and longer.
5K coming up on Thanksgiving day and another one on December 11th. Goals - 27 minute range for both!

Tons of pictures to come.

Giveaway with Emz HERE.

I totally want the runner shirt.

I also Joined the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge, which you can earn points for from November 20-Jan 7. For working out and eating your veg.

I'm excited about NOT gaining 5 pounds this Christmas season. I would like to LOSE 5 pounds so I can rock out the NB shorty running shorts...

Big race this weekend. Taper is over.

Can I do it? Can I make my goal of 2:10 for my first half mary?

Here goes nothing.

Taper time

My schedule calls for 3- 2 mile runs this week for my taper week and after my first 2 mile run today, I HATE this week.

It takes me almost 2 miles to warm up! and by that time I was done. I never got into a groove.

Sooooo....tomorrow I'm going 3.4 miles instead. (don't worry - it'll be easy)

Don't worry, I'll go back to my 2 mile scheduled run on Friday.

4 days and counting...

Gary Burns 5K

All prepped the night before!

It was a CHILLY 47 degrees as we waited for 45 minutes to start the race. (I made a mistake and the 5K started at 8:30. NOT 8am. My bad)
Me and the hubs ran this together and the kiddies (aren't they cute?) were watched by my in-laws during the race.

Here's Dave taking it to the finish!

The goal of this race was to finish in 27-ish minutes(even 27:59 would have been good), and try to pace off Dave. DANG that was hard. I didn't realize how much time I take to warm up when I run. Dave took off and I spent most of the race trying to catch up with him! Also, What's with the walkers?? I have no problem with walkers doing a 5K(I used to be one of them), but I crossed the start line 1 minute after the gun and I weaved around walkers for at least a mile! There were some parts where there was no where to go and I was slowed to a walk until I could make it to the grass to go around people.

About 1.5 miles in, I was hurting. I am not ready to run that fast for longer than 3 minutes!! (don't make fun, it was fast for me) I could not catch my breath and was starting to get a cramp in my shoulder. I sprinted it to the finish with a time of 28:02. WHAT?! If I hadn't weaved so much, I totally would have gotten my goal. But I DID PR and came in 16/86 in my AG and 700/3500 overall!

The only place to go now is FASTER.

How cute is my baby all snuggled up??

DRC half in 6 days!!
